Aging Changes

Writer's picture: Steve FellerSteve Feller

For any of you who have read my past articles, you would know that I have been on a low-carb/Keto lifestyle to control my diabetes. I have been on it for 2-1/2 years and just recently I have found my body doing some aging changes on me. I have been dealing with some achy muscles and just not feeling well. I slapped a new Libre monitor on, have not worn one in several months, yep, my numbers had jumped up. I find it interesting how our bodies just change with age, even when you are doing everything you have been.

I will fill you in a little more. This past year I remodeled our bathroom, and this left me with a messed-up shoulder, which slowed my exercising. I have not been getting my daily workouts, so my habit slowly faded away. I stuck with the low-carb lifestyle, and my weight stayed in line, but inevitably something changed. I have always believed that the perfect combination for our best health was eating the best non-processed foods, low carb for a diabetic, and several forms of exercise. As you can see, I got one factor and now I started to build my plan all over.

Because my numbers have jumped so high I just started on some medication. I was on Metformin for about 10 days and my numbers kept climbing. I had to give in and switch back to insulin to get my numbers down. After many weeks of feeling terrible, I am finally getting back to feeling better, but fully on insulin. I also have been trying to get my exercise in, doing better but it will take a few months to get back where I had been. I am determined to get myself back to where I was, and you will have to come back and get my updates.

Insulin

So why am I sharing this with all of you? I want to show you that we are all human and it is easy to fall off a program. Trying to live a solid healthy lifestyle is not easy and there are always bumps in the road. Sometimes our bodies just change with age, and we cannot always control all of that. But I also want to share how important it is to have a proper lifestyle, with the proper food, exercise, and vitamins. Leave one out and you may be like me.

I used to be a heavy weightlifter, but as I have aged, I have found that walking and yoga are great for me. Everyone can go walking, it does not cost anything, you can do it outdoors or indoors and it can be with friends. When you start trying to get some form of exercise, just start walking, the best thing for you.

Well, that is all I have for today. Frustrated that I am at this point again in my life, thought I was doing ok, but life continues to show us we will have changes. I will get myself back and will be fine. Tune in for some updates!
